In 2004, Cadillac came out with the high performance CTS-V to compete with European sport sedans. The car has been known for its high performance engine with a high power output. The CTS-V’s direct competitors are the BMW M3 and the M5 as well as the Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG and the E55 AMG. Since it is going up against some strong competition, it is a given that General Motors will improve its performance for future model years.
For the 2009 model year, there have been rumors in the auto industry that the CTS-V will be equipped with a supercharged engine. Speculations about the presence of a supercharger for the CTS-V came after photos of the prototype CTS-V came out. The hood of the prototype has a bulge which suggests that a supercharger was hidden somewhere under the hood of the car.
One speculation as to the powerplant of the 2009 CTS-V is that it is equipped with a supercharged variant of the 430-horsepower LS3 engine used in the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette. While another claim is that aside from a supercharger, the engine is also equipped with a Cadillac cold air intake system.
Another theory is that the Cadillac CTS-V will be equipped with a tuned down version of the 700-hosrsepower LS7 engine which will be used on the Corvette Z07. This means that the Cadillac CTS-V may have an engine with a power output of just 600 hp.
According to Edmunds.com though, the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V will not be supercharged but will use a Corvette engine just the same. The leading online source of auto information said that come 2008, the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V will be introduced in the market equipped with a 7.0-liter naturally aspirated LS7 engine.
The said engine can produce as much as 505 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The said power output is expected to give a remarkable acceleration and a high top speed for the 3,800 pound car. According to Edmunds, the engine that will be used on the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V is similar to the ones used by BMW in the E63 AMG. The advantage that the Cadillac has on the BMW is that the E63 AMG weighs about 4,000 pounds.
Meanwhile, the relationship between Cadillac and the Corvette takes another step in promoting the brands by making an appearance at this year’s Motorexpo which will be held from the eleventh up to the seventeenth of this month. The event will be held at London’s Canary Wharf.
Among the vehicles that will be displayed at the event are the Corvette Z06 Ron Fellows Edition and the right hand drive Cadillac SRX. Joining these two vehicles is the other right hand drive Cadillac model which is the Cadillac BLS. A left hand drive Cadillac Escalade will also grace the event with its presence.
The Corvette Z06 Ron Fellows Edition car was designed to celebrate Ron Fellows’ contribution to the Corvette racing program. The said limited edition car is equipped with an LS7 V8 engine mated to a six-speed transmission. The power from the said engine propels the car from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds. It has a top speed of 199 miles per hour.
